Amaranth Arts : Falling Back to Grace

Amaranth Arts presents the choreography of Scott Putman in Falling Back to Grace, an evening of dance with performing artists from both Amaranth Arts and Island Moving Company of Newport, RI. Performances will take place September 11-13, 2014 at 8pm at the Grace Street Theater, 934 W. Grace Street, Richmond, VA. For more information on Amaranth Arts and Falling Back to Grace, contact Scott Putman at scott@amarantharts.com or call the Grace Street Theater at 804-828-2020.

Falling Back to Grace marks the return of Amaranth Arts to the Grace Street Theater and to the city of Richmond since its last presentation of Humanity in Motion four years ago. Over the past few years, the company has been busy performing, presenting, choreographing, and teaching across the globe in festivals in China, France, Italy, Mexico, Scotland, and in the United States in California, Colorado, North Carolina, Rhode Island and Virginia. Amaranth Arts is excited and eager to share the work built around the world to its hometown audience.

Amaranth Arts unveils the world premier of The One and Lonely, exquisitely executed by one of our most recent new additions, company dancer Johnnie Mercer. In addition, audiences will be treated to the Richmond premier of Shadows Fall Where Light Dares Shine, danced by Rachel Brady and Ryan Rouland Smith, and Creek Walkers Under a Waning Moon, channeled by Jill Brammer Ware and Karli Mestas. The community will also have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the re-staging of the acclaimed On the Shelf of Memory in the Temple of a Compressing Heart performed by three original cast members, Damion Bond, Erin Dalton, and Paige Horton with a new member to the company, Christina Johnson. A long time collaborating company, Island Moving Company of Newport, RI joins us on stage, performing both Scott Putman’s choreography, Land of a Thousand Reflections and presenting work from their repertory with Richmond audiences for the first time.

Amaranth Arts is a group of talented individuals from across the country who engage in supporting the company’s mission of “investigating what it means to be fully human by creating three dimensional visceral kinetic experiences.” Every dancer in the organization is an alumnus of Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) and has come to the company through the mentorship and training of VCU Dance. It is remarkable to see the spectrum of graduates who have joined forces with Scott Putman to share his belief that choreography is the art of shaping energy in space.

This is the first event in the 2014 fall season for Amaranth Arts. The company will also be traveling to Denver, CO for their annual residency with Denver School for the Arts (DSA) beginning October 8 and running through October 19, 2014. This marks the 9th will once again engage young audiences by creating three new works on the DSA dance students to perform along side the company in a collaborative concert at the end of the residency. Three of these works created in past residencies and choreographed by Scott Putman for the talented DSA dancers were honored by being chosen for inclusion in the Gala performances for the National High School Dance Festival in Philadelphia, PA, and Miami, FL.
