Cadence Theatre Company in partnership with Virginia Repertory Theatre is pleased to announce their continued adult training programs and workshops, taught by some of the city’s most well-respected artists and teachers.

Cadence strives to reach a population of adults who, perhaps for the first time, seek the singularly liberating experience of re-inventing oneself onstage. Classes and Workshops for Adults will be offered to everyone from beginners to seasoned performers.  All who wish to dip their toes or hone their craft will benefit from the guidance of gifted instructors who have developed creative, effective, award-winning programs.  CTC’s workshops strive to provide a safe, yet challenging atmosphere conducive to artistic growth, community, and achieving one’s personal best.


Rusty WilsonLiving on Stage: an organic approach to the craft of acting 

Taught by Rusty Wilson
8 weeks: Tuesdays, 7:00-9:00
March 3 – April 21, 2015

Cost: $240

This class introduces students of all levels to an organic, step-by-step approach to the art and craft of acting. Through a structured sequence of stage tasks, exercises, monologues, and scenes, students will explore and pursue the art of presence on stage. The training is both sequential and progressive, so students will have the opportunity to build on their work with further class offerings throughout the year.

Course description: This one-day workshop, designed for theatre artists and teachers, is part of CTC’s Professional Development track. Participants will be introduced to and physically explore the nine Viewpoints, as set forth by Anne Bogart and Tina Landau. They will then be guided through a practical application of the Viewpoints in both the composition of new work and the rehearsal process. In this way, they will discover how the Viewpoints can benefit any development process, regardless of style, material, or genre. Participants will need to wear comfortable clothes they can move in.

Yoga for Actors

Taught by Mary Burruss

Wednesday, April 25th, 10am-1pm

Course description: 
Actress, theatre critic and certified Yogini, Mary Burruss, shares secrets of the ancient art of yoga that can help actors and non-actors achieve maximum performance on and off the stage by preparing both the body and mind for greater function and focus. You will learn Ayurvedic techniques for optimizing sensory intake to help with character creation and onstage sensory recall, a simple yoga routine to increase balance, flexibility and strength, plus relaxation techniques to make rehearsals more productive and manage pre-performance nerves. Please wear appropriate movement clothes, bring a yoga mat, notebook and writing utensil and any yoga props you like to employ.

All classes will be held at Virginia Rep’s Children’s Theatre at Willow Lawn.
Class size is limited.
