Cadence Theatre Company in partnership with Virginia Repertory Theatre is pleased to announce their continued adult training programs and workshops, taught by some of the city’s most well-respected artists and teachers.

Cadence strives to reach a population of adults who, perhaps for the first time, seek the singularly liberating experience of re-inventing oneself onstage. Classes and Workshops for Adults will be offered to everyone from beginners to seasoned performers.  All who wish to dip their toes or hone their craft will benefit from the guidance of gifted instructors who have developed creative, effective, award-winning programs.  CTC’s workshops strive to provide a safe, yet challenging atmosphere conducive to artistic growth, community, and achieving one’s personal best.

All classes will be held at Virginia Rep’s Children’s Theatre at Willow Lawn: 1601 Willow Lawn Drive. Richmond, VA 23230

Course Description: This class introduces students of all levels to an organic, step-by-step approach to the art and craft of acting. Through a structured sequence of stage tasks, stories, improvisations, and monologues, students will explore and pursue the art of presence on stage. This class is an introduction to a particular process of work. For those interested, the process will continue with further class offerings throughout the year.

Instructor Bio: Rusty Wilson is a free-lance theatre artist and teacher based in Richmond, VA. Since moving to Richmond in 2005, he has directed a number of critically acclaimed productions including Death of a Salesman, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Who’s Afraid Of Virginia Woolf?, Eurydice, and Mr. Marmalade. Rusty also directed Cadence Theatre’s production of In the Next Room, or the Vibrator Play. Prior to moving to Richmond, Rusty spent ten years serving as the Founding Artistic Director for Company of Fools, an award winning theatre company located in Sun Valley, Idaho. Favorite directing credits there include Danny and the Deep Blue Sea, The Glass Menagerie, Uncle Vanya, James Joyce’s The Dead, Waiting for Godot, How I Learned to Drive, The Tempest, Death and the Maiden, Buried Child, and most recently, Other Desert Cities. During Rusty’s tenure, Company of Fools received the Idaho Governor’s Award, and it continues to be one of Idaho’s leading arts institutions. Rusty has been a guest director and teacher at various colleges and universities around the country, was profiled in American Theatre Magazine, and received a fellowship in directing in 2003. He currently serves as the Arts Dept. Chair, and Director of Theatre at St. Christopher’s School.
