Cadence Theatre Company Announces New Director of Education

Richmond, VA–Cadence Theatre Company (CTC) is pleased to announce that Ms. Laine Satterfield will be joining the company as the new Director of Education. CTC recently received a grant to support the position from a foundation that wishes to remain anonymous.

Ms.Satterfield has performed in, taught, choreographed, directed and devised theatre both nationally and internationally. She has worked at the Public Theatre and Lincoln Center in NYC and toured commedia dell’arte and solo shows through Europe. She has also written and directed several original pieces. She holds a BFA from Tisch School of the Arts at NYU and has trained at the University of Eurasian Theatre, Stella Adler Conservatory, Carnegie-Mellon University, and the University College of London (dramaturgy – Shakespeare and modern British). She has taught at New York University, Stella Adler Conservatory, Aquila University, Virginia Governor’s School, Company of Fools, Artspower, SPARC, Center for the Arts, Centerstage and various workshops in the states and abroad. Recent stage roles include Heather in Gidion’s Knot, produced by Carol Piersol, Sabrina Daldry in In the Next Room for Cadence Theatre Company, Anna in Boston Marriage (Stella di Domani Festival at Spoleto, Charleston), under producer Carol Piersol: Maggie in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (2012 Best Actress nomination, RTCC), Martha in Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf (2011 Best Actress Award, RTCC), Eurydice in Eurydice (2009 Best Actress nomination, RTCC), and for Virginia Rep: Ellen in The Little Dog Laughed (2008 Best Supporting Actress nomination, RTCC). Other favorite roles include Lady Macbeth in Macbeth, Elena in Uncle Vanya, Paulina in Death and the Maiden, and Ariel in The Tempest.  She is a member of Actors Equity Association. In addition to teaching theatre to all ages in the Richmond area, she serves as Program Director for SPARC’s New Voices for the Theater, a statewide high school playwriting program.

In addition to developing new educational programs for the community, Ms. Satterfield will lead CTC’s existing programs, including the CTC Internship Program and the Sunday Talk-Back Series. CTC will be partnering with Virginia Repertory Theatre to offer adult classes for theatre artists this fall and will jointly offer the Fourth Wall Student Forum. An August Adventure (offered in association with SPARC) will continue to be overseen by Artistic and Managing Director Anna Johnson.

SPARC and Cadence Theatre Company present
An August Adventure



AGES 4-9 (2 weeks)

August 12-23

In partnership, SPARC and Cadence Theatre Company present Roald Dahl’s WILLY WONKA KIDS! This scrumptious musical is guaranteed to delight everyone’s sweet tooth! With all the recognizable cast of characters and the golden ticket in hand, campers will enjoy rotations of singing, dancing, and acting as they collaborate on stage for this musical! The performance will be on August 23, in rep with the middle school camp.


Location One: St. Catherine’s School This location is filled.

Location Two: St. Mary’s Episcopal Church (just 12 minutes from St. Catherine’s!) This location is filled.

Ages 4-7; 9:00 am-1:00 pm ($300)

Ages 7-9; 9:00 am-3:00 pm ($400)

*Extended day care available for ages 4-7; 1:00-3:00 pm ($100 additional)


AGES 10-13 (2 weeks)

August 12-23

In partnership with SPARC and Cadence Theatre Company, this 2-week performance summer camp is back by popular demand! Middle school students will work on all aspects of performance: acting, singing, dance, props, sets and costumes! Students will stage the popular musical, FAME, JR. Students will also enjoy theatrical games, exercises and “outside the box” theatrical activities. The camp will run concurrently with the WILLY WONKA KIDS program for younger students. Program and performances will run in rep on the evening of Friday, August 23rd. It is a perfect way to end the summer on a high note before heading back to school!
