Cadence Theatre Company in partnership with Virginia Rep’s 4th Wall Student Leadership Program (4th Wall) was on the beat at the opening night for Lisa D’Amour’s Detroit! Check out this great video that Skye, Izabela and Lily created!: The 4th Wall Student Leadership Program (4th Wall) allows young theatre lovers to connect with artists and audiences, inspiring the next generation of theatre leaders and theatre arts enthusiasts. Various strategies of engagement include creation of written reviews, behind-the-scenes videos and social media networking. Students also host post-show discussions, usher and give curtain speeches. As a benefit, members receive free tickets to our productions and attend educational gatherings and retreats annually. Detroit runs two more weeks, so don’t miss it! Cadence Theatre Company in partnership with Virginia Repertory Theatre announces cast and creative team of Lisa D’Amour’s Detroit

Richmond, VA–Cadence Theatre Company in partnership with Virginia Repertory Theatre proudly presents the Richmond premiere of Lisa D’Amour’s Pulitzer Prize-nominated and Obie Award-winning play, Detroit. Detroit runs May 1-May 24, 2014 (opens May 3rd) with a Talk Back Sunday post-show discussion on Sunday, May 11th. Local psychiatrist and substance abuse specialist Dr. Neil Sonenklar will facilitate

Detroit is a dark comedy which takes the suburban American dream and exposes it as a ridiculous hoax. The New York Post says that D’Amour’s piercing scrutiny “totally nails the great, deep malaise of middle-class suburbia, with a sustained energy and a wicked eye for telling details.” First performed by Steppenwolf Theatre in Chicago, Detroit has recently finished a successful run off-Broadway.

Detroit is directed by Anna Johnson, and features Larry Cook, Chris Lindsay-Abaire, Landon Nagel, Bill Patton and Laine Satterfield. Scenic Design is by Brian C. Barker, Lighting Design is by K. Jenna Ferree, Costume Design is by Lynn West, Sound Design is by John Dombroski, Music Design is by Andrew J. Hamm, Properties Design and Set Dressing are by McLean Jesse, Fight Choreography is by Kevin Inouye, Scenic Painting is by Terrie Powers, Set Construction is by Joel Ernst, Stage Management is by Chandler Jez, and Production Management is by McLean Jesse (Cadence Theatre Company) and Wendy Pendergrift (Virginia Rep).

Detroit is presented May 1-May 24th (opens May 3rd) at Theatre Gym at the Virginia Rep Center; 114 W. Broad Street, Richmond, Virginia 23220. From Brooklyn to Richmond to Detroit

Chris Lindsay-Abaire and her husband David attended Sarah Lawrence with Anna Johnson (Cadence Artistic Director). They’ve remained friends as David pursued his career as a playwright (this season’s Good People and currently-running Shrek). Meanwhile, Chris served on the board of Cadence from her New York vantage. When Anna was considering Detroit, she sent the script to Chris, who not only approved, but asked to audition. She and TVJerry chatted before rehearsal last weekend and here’s what she had to say about the play and Richmond:
