Cadence Theatre Company in Partnership with Virginia Repertory Theatre Announces Cast of David Lindsay-Abaire’s Good People

Richmond, VA–Cadence Theatre Company in partnership with Virginia Repertory Theatre proudly announces the cast of their upcoming production of David Lindsay Abaire’s award-winning comedy, Good People. Cast members will include Jeanne Boisineau, Katrinah Lewis, Jay O. Millman, Alexander Sapp, Dawn A. Westbrook and Irene Ziegler.

Good People won the 2011 New York Drama Critics’ Circle Award for Best Play. The work treats severe financial hardship, the single parenting of a disabled child, and the consequences of our decisions with sensitivity and candor. About Lindsay-Abaire and his play, Jason Clark (Slant Magazine) wrote: “As sensitive a modern playwright as can be heard these days, (Lindsay-Abaire’s characters) sound like doomed-to-fail, ivory tower-slanted scenarios… (but) Instead of holding up the play’s lead character Margaret as a victim of hard luck, the playwright shrewdly uses her as an example of how choices can make or break us, and the smallest twists of fate determine our path.”

Good People will be presented at Theatre Gym at the Virginia Rep Center; 114 W. Broad Street, Richmond, Virginia 23220. Directed by Anna Johnson, Good People runs October 17 (opens October 19) – November 9, 2013. Tickets may be purchased at (804) 282-2620 or at www.va-rep.org. Details regarding CTC and Virginia Rep’s new event nights will be released August 1, 2013.

Audiences loved Next to Normal

“To Whom It May Concern,
I just wanted to write a quick email thanking you for putting on Next to Normal here in Richmond. If you could pass this on to the cast and production team I would be appreciative.

I am a huge fan of the musical and have previously seen the touring show with Alice Ripley. I went to your show yesterday afternoon and was blown away by the performance. Everything was unbelievable, but especially the performance of the cast. I have no doubt that your production was superior to the touring show. So thank you again for allowing me to experience it.”
–Brian Innenberg

“Just returned from seeing Cadence Theatre Company’s incredible production of Next to Normal. Terence Sullivan, Duke Lafoon, Christie Jackson, Russell Rowland, John Mincks, and Andrea Elizabeth Rivette were all fantastic in their respective roles. Having seen the show on Broadway, and a few other professional productions, I can say this one is right up there with the original Broadway production. In fact, the staging under Chase Kniffen’s direction was better in my opinion, in many parts, than the original production. Great job to all. I can’t recommend this show enough. I just need to figure out when I’m going to see it again!”
–Jeremy Bustin

“Next to Normal with Virginia Repertory Theatre and Cadence Theatre Company was absolutely one of the finest nights in theatre I have had in a very long time. VERY long time. I cried, I laughed, I saw myself on stage. It was absolutely terrific. DO NOT MISS THIS. DO NOT WALK. RUUUUNNN to the November Theatre. Thank you to the cast and crew for giving me such a cathartic experience.”
–Lucian Restivo

“Wow. No, WOW! Cadence Theatre Company’s production of Next to Normal was exceptional! It was a flawless, riveting production. The direction was terrific, the lighting was perfect, the set was so cool, the band was rocking, the performances were honest and moving, and the singing/music direction was heavenly. Go see this show. Kudos to all involved for an amazing night of theater.”
–Chris Hester

“I had the pleasure of seeing Next to Normal Saturday evening. It was absolutely stunning. The set was dynamic, everyone’s voices beautifully in harmony, and the performances were heart wrenching. The use of lighting was extremely strategic which added to the poignant moments. I could gush on and on. Basically it was a show rivaling any Broadway production and congratulations to everyone involved in this production! I plan on seeing it again.”
–Katherine Wright

“I was overwhelmed with Next to Normal tonight. Cadence and VA Rep — kudos to you and Chase Kniffen and Anna Senechal Johnson and all involved. Such a difficult topic that unfolds so honestly – the set design, the lighting, the video, all the stage action, Kim Fox and the live band –wow!! Everyone has elements of this story in their own or a friends’ family. Don’t miss this play!! The performances- and those voices- will break your heart and take your breath away. Thanks to Duke Lafoon, Andrea Rivette, Christie Jackson, John Mincks, Russell Rowland and Terence Sullivan for a great night of theatre.”
–Pat Vastano

“I feel like this ‘perfect loving family’ is a new set of friends in my life and they’re all moving away on Sunday. Makes me a little sad. This show has touched me deeply and I am grateful to have had the

opportunity to see it several times. A friend of mine saw it last night and her boyfriend said it was “way better than the National Touring Company of West Side Story” that he saw last weekend. Props to an absolutely amazing cast!!!”
–Nita Starr

“I love Richmond theater and I am so proud of all that this city offers. I went to see Cadence Theater Co (in partnership w/ VaRep)’s production of Next to Normal last night. I have been listening to the CDs from the Broadway show for a few years. The music is so powerful. But seeing it staged was beyond description. Congratulations to Anna Senechal Johnson, to Bruce Miller and to Phil Whiteway for bringing this production to us and to Chase Kniffen – the casting and direction of the show was perfection. These actors were exceptional – their voices!!!….their emotional commitment to their roles!!!….their ability to draw me into their world so completely!!!….they took my breath away, broke my heart and brought tears rolling down my cheeks. Thank you, thank you, thank you.”
–Gerri Hall
