Kimberly Akimbo, by David Lindsay-Abaire
October 14-November 5, 2011 (Preview October 13)
at The Theatre Gym
directed by Anna Johnson
With Richard Koch, Matthew Mitchell, Jill Bari Steinberg, Debra Wagoner and Irene Ziegler

Set in the wilds of suburban New Jersey, Kimberly Akimbo is an hilarious and heartrending play about a teenager with a rare condition which causes her body to age faster than it should.  When she and her family flee Secaucus under dubious circumstances, Kimberly is forced to reevaluate her life while contending with a hypochondriac mother, a rarely sober father, a scam-artist aunt, her own mortality and, most terrifying of all, the possibility of first love.

By 2007 Pulitzer Prize winner and Tony nominee David Lindsay-Abaire, Kimberly Akimbo was commissioned by South Coast Repertory Theatre, and received the LA Drama Critics Award for playwriting, three Garland Awards and the Kesselring Prize. The play went to a sold-out run at Manhattan Theatre Club, where it was hailed as "The Comedy of the Year" by The New York Times.

In the Next Room or the vibrator play, by Sarah Ruhl
August 17-September 8, 2012 (Preview August 16)
at The Theatre Gym
directed by Rusty Wilson

A 2010 Tony Award nominee for Best Play and Pulitzer Prize finalist, this playful and entertaining story set at the dawn of the age of electricity examines the medical treatment of hysteria of Victorian-era women. In the Next Room or the vibrator play is a groundbreaking examination of marriage and love.

Ruhl's play premiered at Berkeley Repertory Company and went on to be presented at Broadway's Lincoln Center Theatre.  "In the Next Room brings scintillating news of the politics of desire, scientific history, and sexual behavior.  Part of the comedy of Ruhl's play--her most commercial and best to date--is her nonjudgmental attack on a sensational subject...Ruhl has extended the geography of the comedy of manners."--The New Yorker
