Cadence Theatre Company in partnership with Virginia Repertory Theatre presents Small Mouth Sounds REBOOT by Bess Wohl. Join us for a limited run September 23-Oct 3.

Cadence Theatre Company in partnership with Virginia Rep is pleased to "reboot" its memorable, hilarious, and moving production of Bess Wohl's Small Mouth Sounds, which closed in March of 2020 after only five performances. We promised ourselves that when we did return to live performances, we would finish the run! To provide the highest level of safety, all patrons are required to show proof of vaccination or proof that they have received a negative COVID test by a professional technician within 48 hours prior to the performance. Masks must be worn inside at all times.

“Returning to the Yurt and having the opportunity to revisit Small Mouth Sounds is a gift. This brief time of rediscovering the world of the play, with hope for change and reconnection with each other and audiences is exciting. With high level safety precautions, our production of Small Mouth Sounds does indeed reflect Cadence Theatre Company’s mission “to tell the story of our lives as we live them now”  — Jenny Hundley, “Joan”

“After so much separation, theater brings us together not only physically, but mentally and emotionally. It challenges us to return to our seats of empathy and compassion for one another in the human experience. Returning to this show in particular feels even more timely. We have all basically been on a silent retreat for a year and a half. It has forced us to look inside. And much like the 6 characters of the retreat, we've been through an experience, maybe we are not sure what we are taking away from it, but there is no doubt, we have all been changed by it. I can't think of a better place for us to process all that we've been through, actors and audience, than in a theater.” — Jim Morgan, “Ned”

“Since everybody else here has done this already, and I am new to the cast, I want to make sure I create a character that fits into the world that they’ve previously established. The entire cast and everyone else involved has been absolutely incredible welcoming me into their world, I’m honored to help this cast close out their run. — Evan Nasteff, “Rodney”

“Walking through the doors of the theatre felt like a relief” — Marisa Guida, “Teacher”

“It’s like coming home” – Lauren Leinhaas-Cook, “Judy”

“…This excellent cast offers amusing and sometimes tender insights into a group of encumbered strangers in a unique situation.” — Jerry Williams (TVJerry), Sifter (March 8, 2020)

“Delightful production... Marvelous cast... Perfectly captured the juxtaposition of the meditative environment with the characters’ personalities and problems.” — Julinda D. Lewis, RVArt Review (March 8, 2020)

"A rewarding production... Director Laine Satterfield has expertly guided the actors to create real people using just movement, expression, and a minimum of speech." — Susan Haubenstock, BroadwayWorld (March 9, 2020)

"Intimate, thought-provoking, and invigorating.” — Rachel Marsh, Boomer Magazine (March 13, 2020)
